PRIORITY RECORDS
Los Angeles, California
Colorola was selected to create the commemorative identity and promotional materials for the 25th anniversary of Priority Records, one of the defining labels in the history of West Coast hip hop. Closely associated with artists including Snoop Dogg, the label helped shape the visual and musical culture of Los Angeles during a formative period in contemporary music, helping bring West Coast rap into the global mainstream.
Developed for a year-long series of events, releases, and promotional campaigns, the anniversary identity needed to feel both commemorative and immediate. Colorola designed a streamlined graphic mark that incorporated the original Priority Records logo while drawing inspiration from the monumental style and cinematic framing of classic Hollywood studio branding, particularly the iconic visual language associated with 20th Century Studios. The approach connected the legacy of the label to the larger history of Los Angeles entertainment, referencing the scale and cultural presence of the film industry that has long shaped the city’s identity.
The resulting system was developed to function across packaging, merchandise, advertising, digital platforms, live events, and promotional materials throughout the anniversary campaign. Multiple formats and color variations were created to maintain consistency across media while allowing the identity to adapt fluidly to different applications. Alongside the anniversary logo, Colorola also developed commemorative packaging and supporting marketing materials that reflected the lasting influence of Priority Records on the visual culture of hip hop and Southern California music.
