Located shouting distance from the main gate of Warner Bros. Studios, The Tangerine is a remarkably intact mid-century motel with a unique history and authentic charm that had been slightly obfuscated by an upgrade in the 90s. The objective is to revive the initial allure with hospitality design that is amicable yet unique. In addition to the original Burbank location, the client has ambitions to take the refreshed brand to additional properties. Modernizing their online operations and creating an evocative yet adaptable brand program was vital to the master plan.
We wanted to avoid the strictly pastiche yet create a new brand program that echoed the vintage property’s Hollywood backstory and still provide an efficient, timeless, hospitality design solution that is a functional as it is novel.
